Get The Most Out Of Your Baking

Anyone who loves baking enjoys the true qualities of food. Now I’m not talking about preparing a microwaveable lunch, or sticking already made cookie dough on a sheet and baking it. What I’m talking about is real, made from scratch, meals.

Baking from scratch has several positive results. For one thing, it is far more impressive to be able to tell your friends and family you made something from scratch than from a box. For another thing, it is much better for you. Mixes and instant meals are loaded with unhealthy ingredients that allow them to sit for long periods of time without spoiling. They are also full of sugars and high fats. When you bake from scratch, you can eradicate of some of the harmful ingredients.

While a challenge, baking from scratch is an adventure. You get to pick what goes in the food and you are the one making the meal, not some food manufacturer. This also means you have the opportunity to make your food more nutritious. When following a dessert recipe, one simple way to be healthy is to reduce the sugar amount. Rebel a little. Don’t follow every rigid demand of the recipe. Most recipes will taste fine with half as much sugar. Another thing you can do is use butter rather than margin. Despite what many people say, current studies show butter is healthier than margin.

Reducing pesticides is something else you can do to be healthier. Purchasing organic vegetables and fruits is one way to do this. If you’re on a stiff budget, there’s other ways to do this. Sterilize tomatoes, cucumbers and other veggies by soaking them in boiling water for approximately three seconds. For fruits, you can wash, and then peel them. If you are handling more delicate foods such as strawberries or lettuce, soak them in saltwater, then rinse them thoroughly twice.

These are just a few tips to make your eating healthier. While it may be a little bit more trouble, trust me it will be worth it. Your body will thank you later. Hopefully, you will be inspired to do a little bit of baking from scratch. Just be sure not to stick any scrumptious pies out on the window to cool unless you have a home security system.
