Easy Pizza Dough Making

Pizza dough making at home is something most people would not even consider. They’re gotten so used to ordering take-out or delivery that many don’t know it’s actually a very easy thing to do.

Five simple and inexpensive ingredients is all it takes to make a basic pizza dough. Flour water, oil, salt and yeast complete the list.

Not only does pizza dough making not require many ingredients, it also doesn’t take a lot of time. The longest time period is waiting for the proofing process (the rising of the dough). But you can be doing other things.

Find a simple pizza dough recipe on the Internet and repeat the following steps:

First, get all your ingredients measured out in the correct quantities and set aside. It’s a real time saver and makes everything more efficient.

Add all your dry ingredients to a bowl and mix them thoroughly. Next add the water. The water optimally would be at or around 105 degrees, which is lukewarm. The yeast works best at this temperature.

Stir the ingredients until everything comes together in a ragged ball, then add the oil. Stir until all the oil is absorbed.

It’s now time to knead. Place the dough ball on a flour-dusted surface. Keep a little flour at hand to add now and then when the ball gets too sticky. Begin by pushing the dough down and away from you. Fold the dough back on to itself, then turn it 90 degrees and do it all over again. Repeat this process for about 5 minutes.

When the dough becomes smooth-looking and seems very elastic when you pull it apart, stop kneading. Shape the dough into a ball.

You can now lightly oil a bowl, add the dough ball and rotate it around until the ball is completely oiled as well. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set in a warm place for approximately two hours or until the dough ball has doubled in size.

Remove the dough after rising and place it on a flour-dusted work area. Begin rolling it out with a rolling pin. Most roll it to a 1/8 inch thickness. You can make it as thick or thin as you like.

Be gentle when picking up the dough. It can tear. If it does, try to repair it by pinching the hole together. If it won’t work, mash it into a ball again and re-roll. Trim and shape the dough to fit the pan.

Guess what? You just succeeded one your first attempt at pizza dough making!
