Welcome From The Baking Queen

Nana Baking Cookies

Grandma's Cookies Are Great!

First, I want to welcome you to our site.  We hope that find just the thing you’re looking for while you’re here.

My love of baking started at my Grandmother’s house.  Nanna, as I called her, was always baking something.  She lived through the Great Depression and held down the fort while my Grandfather was away during World War II.  She had many jobs during that time just to make ends meet and baking was one of them.  While her baking stemmed from necessity, mine has always been pleasure.

I remember walking into her house as a child and the aroma of fresh bread baking greeting you at the door.  One of my favorite memories is sitting up on a barstool at the bar my Grandfather had built for her, being served a slice of warm bread with homemade jam on it.  And a cup of hot, but not very hot, chocolate.

Among her specialties were cinnamon rolls and caramel pecan rolls.  These decadent treats were about 5 inches square and the ooiest-gooiest things I had ever had.  My Mom made chocolate chip cookies and the occasional cake, but going to Nanna’s was like going to the bakery.

Nanna’s gone now but whenever I think of her and her baking I can’t help but to feel good.  She never used a recipe and unfortunately I didn’t think to watch and write it down.  When I am searching for recipes, her baked goods are the standard that I hold them to.  She sparked my interest in baking and now her Great Grandchildren are always happy to help me with my baking.
